Beach and office-ready.
This mochila bag is a bigger version of the traditional mochila. It is about 10cm wider. It is made from 100% fique of the maguey plant, typically grown in the Andean region of Colombia. It is a very durable fiber, used mainly for hammocks, bags, and ropes for many centuries.
This specific fiber is worked and harvested in the Sierra Nevada of Colombia in the region of Cesar where the Kankuamo indigenous people live. The women of this community use weaving and their products as their main source of income. The Kankuamo ktribe is one of the 4 tribes that inhabit the Sierra Nevada. Read more on the blog.
Wear the mochila across your body or on one shoulder. Great piece for everyday use. Resistant to all types of weather.
Weaver: Aura Montero. Award winner of the Gold Medal of Honor of Artesanías de Colombia. She is a master artisan of the Kankuamo reserve.
