Colombian Mochila - Stripes

The indigenous communities from the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta cultivated fique for many centuries to make mainly garments, ropes and hammocks. Fique is well-known for its strength and durability. Fique garments tend to last decades when proper care is given.

Fique fibers are dyed with natural pigments by means of a boiling process, creating colorful spools of fique fibers that are used by the local artisans to create these one-of-a-kind handbags.

Mochila bags can be worn by both men and women and are considered to be a cultural emblem for Colombian identity. Wear it across your body or on one shoulder.
