Wayuu is a Native American ethnic group of the Guajira Peninsula in the northernmost part of Colombia on the Caribbean coast and northwest Venezuela. Wayuu culture is known for making Wayuu bags or mochila bags. A susu is a tote-like bag, typically 20cm-30cm wide and 35cm high, used to store personal and work items (below). The colors and patterns are characteristics of the fabrics inspired by nature and cultural beliefs. Wayuu women learn how to weave at a very early age. Learn more about the Wayuu people in our blog
