Orange Fique Mochilon

Beach and office-ready. Go bold and practical with this orange, vegetable-dyed mochila bag. 

This bag is a bigger version of the traditional mochila. It is made from 100% fique of the maguey plant, typically grown in the Andean region of Colombia. It is a very durable fiber, used mainly for hammocks, bags, and ropes for many centuries. 

This specific fiber is worked and harvested in the Sierra Nevada of Colombia in the region of Cesar where the Kankuamo indigenous tribe lives. The women of this tribe use weaving and their products as their main source of income. The Kankuamo people is one of the four communities that inhabit the Sierra Nevada. Read more on the blog.
